This volume contains the proceedings of a workshop "Asymptotic Analysis and the Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations," held at Argonne National Laboratory, February 26-28, 1990.
On February 26-28, 1990, over forty mathematicians, engineers, and computer scientists met at the Mathematics and Computer Science Division of Argonne National Laboratory (25 miles southwest of Chicago, Ilinois; funded by the Department of Energy and operated by The University of
Chicago; home of several hundred white deer and some 4,000 scientists, technicians, and, of course, administrators), to hear six invited and more than a dozen contributed presentations. The subjects covered mathematical models, computational methods, algorithmic developments, and applications. The lively discussions continued on March 1 and 2, during the "informal" part of the workshop.
