Lagerstrom P. Matched Asymptotic Expansions - Ideas and Techniques
New York: Springer, Springer-Verlag New York Inc., 1988. — XII, 252 p. — Applied Mathematical Sciences Series, Volume 76.
The present goal of the book is a thorough discussion of selected ideas and techniques used in the method of matched asymptotic expansions. The central theme of the book is thus basic ideas and resulting techniques in the method of matched asymptotic expansions, more specifically the concept of matching. The point of view here is based on the fundamental ideas enunciated by Saul Kaplun in the mid-fifties. In particular, matching is possible only when the relevant expansions have a domain of overlap and matching is thus in essence intermediate matching the author is not aware of any counter example which is not spurious. Another point is that the various recipes for matching can be explained, and possibly corrected or discovered, from the basic underlying principles.
