A course of linguistics.
The first step in the introduction to any field of scholarly endeavor should be to define the subject matter of that field, so we shall begin by exploring the nature of language, or more precisely linguistic structures.
We illustrate the divergence of opinion among scholars as to what constitutes language, and introducing our discussion with different definitions of language enables us to explore the nature of language by comparing the different views of linguistic structures.
